This past week I have taken on the task of learning how to sew. My teacher is my Grandmother, "Nana". She is down for a couple of weeks and has agreed to teach me a few things. She even gave me her "Florida" sewing machine:
On Saturday we went to JoAnn Fabrics to pick up some supplies, and when we arrived, Nana asked me if I knew what I wanted to make. I just thought you bought some fabric, and started sewing, but apparently you need to do a little more planning than that. We walked the aisles and she explained what everything was, and we picked up some starter supplies & a CUTE sewing box to put everything in:
We decided on 2 baby items, that I would make for my Sister's baby on the way. They are simple, straight line projects- well at least I thought they were, until I realized straight lines are harder that they look. This is our cute material:
Before you read any further & see any more pictures, please remember these are the first 2 things I have EVER made!
The first thing we did was take a basic white burp cloth and add material on the sides to jazz it up a bit:
The next project was cutting terry cloth material into a square, adding a border around it, and attaching a pacifier to it. Now this project needs to be modified so that the pacifier will detach from it. The next one I make will snap on & instead of buying terry cloth, I may just use a washcloth:
(Ignore the seams, that is the back of it)
Sewing is a LOT harder that it looks, but I really love it. I hope that everyone will like their handmade gifts for Christmas- I hope to have them done by then!! (Ha)
Thanks Nana!!!
PS- I have started on my second burp cloth, more pictures to come soon...
