We are back from the big family vacation, and we all had a great time! We arrived on Thursday evening to the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort, and decided we were too tired to go to a park, so we all went to bed. Whitney, Brad, Logan, Mike, & myself had a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite on the first floor, and my parents had a standard room with 2 balconies on the seventh floor, I believe. Friday morning we woke up, had breakfast, and headed to Hollywood Studios, formerly, MGM Studios. Surprisingly, the parks were pretty empty, but that didn't matter to us, because we didn't wait in any lines for the rides. Whitney & Logan ended up leaving the park around noon so they could both take a nap. I don't think I have mentioned it in a previous post, but Whitney is pregnant with baby #2; she is around 8 weeks. Anyway, that night we had dinner plans at Sci Fi (see below) which is set to look like an old drive in movie theater.
Our reservations were at 4pm- well Mike was coming up after work on Friday, and I wanted him to eat with us, so we were able to change our reservations to 7:05pm. I figured he would be there in plenty of time to get him his ticket to get into the parks & make it to dinner. Mike called me around 3pm and said he was on the road. I then began to worry he would never make it on time. After getting a little lost, being at a dead stop because cows were in the road, not getting a shower, missing the first boat to get to the park, we made it with about a minute to spare! We arrive at Sci Fi only to find out my poor pregnant sister was in the bathroom throwing up her lunch- maybe that chicken quesadilla with grilled onions was a bad idea?! Brad ended up taking her back to the hotel, so me, Mike, Logan, and my parents stayed and ate. The next morning Me, Mike, Whit, Logan, & Brad headed to Animal Kingdom for a few hours. This is a really neat park full of animals, and yes, they are real. It sometimes is hard to decipher between real and animated, but luckily Brad & Whitney go to Disney a lot, so they were able to tell us what was what. For example, the ducks you see everywhere, they are real, but the Dinosaurs on the ride at Animal Kingdom, animated! After Animal Kingdom we headed over to Epcot to meet up with my parents, but Brad met us a little later, his travelers anxiety caught up with him! Sunday was my Dad's birthday, so we bought him this ridiculous birthday cake hat that lit up & a pin to wear on his shirt saying it was his birthday. We headed to the Magic Kingdom, and all day people were telling him happy birthday, and his response was "How did you know?"! He was standing in line to buy lunch and 2 boys, around 8 or 9 years old, read his birthday pin with his name on it, and decided to sing him happy birthday- the whole song!! Our hotel stay at the Dolphin was only until Sunday, so we had to pack up and move to the Buena Vista Palace (see below) for Sunday night. It is located right across the street from Downtown Disney.
At the dolphin, we had the option of boat or bus to get to the Disney Parks. The Buena Vista only offered bus. So when we went to the Magic Kingdom on Sunday, we took Bus "B" to the transportation station, and then took the monorail to the entrance of the park. My parents left to go back to the hotel around 7pm, but Whit, Brad, Logan, Mike & me stayed until around 10pm. Before I finish this part of the story, let me tell you a side story: At the Dolphin Hotel there is a Shula's Steak House, and in the elevator there is a picture of a steak. All weekend Mike wanted to eat there, but we never did. Well after hearing about steak ALL weekend, we decided we would order it from room service Sunday night from our new hotel. Well on the menu it said they serve steak until 11pm.- Now back to my original story: So we leave the Magic Kingdom, but instead of going back the same way we came, Whitney & Brad say, lets take the bus back to the Old Key West resort- it is right across the street from our hotel, and it will be much faster. We get on the bus, and it is crowded, it is late, we are all tired, and of course we get the happiest bus driver at Disney. He is telling jokes and singing songs, it was ridiculous! Well the old Key West Resort is huge, so they have around 4 bus stops just at there hotel alone. As we reach each stop, we are looking out the window to see if we see our hotel, but we don't. We make it to the last stop before the bus brings us back to Magic Kingdom, and we ask our perky bus driver if we are close to our hotel. He then informs us that it is about a 2.5 mile walk. Word of advice, when you look out your 9th floor balcony and see something that looks very close, it isn't as close as you think! We must get off at this bus stop and wait for the Downtown Disney bus. Whoops! It is now approaching 10:48pm, Mike is ready to walk back to the hotel to get his steak, and the bus finally came. We ended up getting to the room at 11:10pm, so I called room service and lucky for Mike, they still had steak! Yea! Mike was so happy!!!
On Monday, we went to Old Town, then headed home! It was a great weekend, hope you enjoyed a glimpse into it...Enjoy the slide show, it may take a minute to upload!
